Police arrest man over viral video threatening High Court judge

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with a viral video in which he allegedly threatened a High Court judge, Her Ladyship Justice Patricia Quansah.

The suspect, John Kwabena Owusu Ansah, was arrested on March 27, 2026, at Antoakrom in the Ashanti Region following what the Police described as intelligence-led operations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Police said the arrest was carried out by officers from the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team after a period of monitoring and investigation.

According to the statement, the video contained threats, abusive language, and allegations accusing Justice Quansah of criminal conduct.

The Police noted that the content raised concerns about the safety of the judge and the reputation of the Judiciary.

The statement indicated that the case is being handled under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), alongside the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772).

These laws provide for sanctions against unlawful online content, including fines, revocation of licenses, and criminal prosecution.

The Police added that the suspect is in custody, assisting with investigations and will be put before the court shortly.
