Heavy crowds, traffic congestion mark Easter climax at La Pleasure Beach

Hundreds of revellers marked Easter Monday at La Pleasure and Polo beaches in Accra, amid brisk commercial activity, heavy traffic and heightened security.

Friends, families and organised groups arrived from midmorning to occupy spaces along the shoreline, while others joined later in the afternoon, contributing to a steady rise in patronage.

Officials of the Ghana Police Service, supported by facility staff, managed vehicular and human traffic at the La Pleasure Beach enclave as attendance peaked around mid-afternoon.

Trading activities surged as vendors recorded brisk sales, with patrons purchasing food, beverages, and other items in addition to homemade meals.

Recreational activities, including football, music, horse riding and live performances, engaged children and adults alike.

Some patrons who spoke to the Ghana News Agency commended the quality of services and security arrangements at the venues.

Mr. Kwame Kaledzi, a lifeguard at Labadi Beach, lauded the conduct of revellers, noting that no incident had been recorded. He said a team had been deployed to monitor swimmers and ensure visitor safety.

“We anticipated the large numbers since today is a major holiday, so about 10 of us were on standby…we know lives are precious, so we do our best to protect everybody, and luckily we did not face lots of challenges,” he stated.

Mr. Samuel Adjei, a visitor from Dansoman, expressed satisfaction with the orderly environment despite the large turnout.

“Every year we go to the Dansoman beach, but this year, our family decided to change location to La Pleasure Beach…we have had a good time and made new friends. I hope the celebration next year will be bigger,” he said.

Other patrons, including Ms. Abigail Sarfo and Mr. Kojo Krampah, who travelled from Madina and Lapaz respectively, shared similar sentiments.

“Easter Monday is a happy moment for everybody. I came with my friends from Lapaz to catch a glimpse of the activities here. I chose Labadi beach because I feel safe when I come here, and everything has been perfect since I arrived,” Mr. Krampah said.

Mr. Felix Frimpong, a regular visitor to Polo Beach, also highlighted improvements in facilities and security.

“I also came with my wife and family. This is my fourth time at La Beach. There are enough parking spaces and tents for everyone. The security is tight, and we are all going about our activities peacefully.”
