Sunyani Technical University dismisses students for examination fraud

The Sunyani Technical University (STU) has dismissed three students for engaging in examination malpractices.

In a statement issued and signed by Mr S. A. Obour, the University’s Registrar, sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on its official website, and dated April 8, 2026, said the dismissed students engaged in the acts during the Second Semester re-sit examination of the 2024/2025 academic year.

The statement was captioned: “Impersonation offence, and possession and use of unauthorised materials at exam hall”, and explained that “one Dr Solomon Yeboah, a student, arranged for another person to write the examination on his behalf”.

“Miss Mercy Masu and Mr Wisdom Kwame Agbo went to the examination hall with unauthorised materials on them”, it stated, reiterating that: “Examination malpractice in any form will not be tolerated and severe sanctions will be applied to offenders”.

It said the dismissal was to protect the sanctity, credibility, and integrity of the university’s examination system and expected all students to hold academic integrity at all times.

When contacted, Mrs Safura Mohammed Suraj, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the STU, confirmed the incident, saying that the institution prohibited examination malpractices.

She told the GNA that “Arranging for someone to sit in and write your exams for you is a crime and bringing foreign material to the exam hall is an offence”.

Mrs said investigations were ongoing, stressing that anybody who had a hand in the offence would be punished accordingly.

“The STU doesn’t intend to hurt students and also doesn’t take delight in punishing students wrongly, but rather wants to preserve its credibility”.
