Viral Video: Nigerian woman in police uniform arrested

The Police have arrested a Nigerian woman captured in viral videos wearing official Ghana Police Service camouflage and standard black uniforms.

The arrest followed the interception of the videos by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service.

The suspect, identified as Esther Obasi, was seen in the videos dressed in the official uniforms, raising public outrage and concerns over the unauthorised use and abuse of police attire and impersonation.

A Police brief said investigations led the team to the Prestea area in the Western Region, where the suspect was arrested.

It said the police officer whose uniform was used had also been identified and would be subjected to internal disciplinary processes.

The brief said the suspect was currently in police custody assisting with investigations and would be put before court.

“The Ghana Police Service would like to use this opportunity to warn the public against the unauthorised use and abuse of police uniforms, as persons found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” it said.
