CEO Sulemana revives Tema Shipyard

Tema Shipyard and Drydock Limited (TSY) is mounting a decisive recovery, with shipowners returning and revenues climbing sharply under Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Osman Sulemana.

Appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, Sulemana has overseen a disciplined turnaround that has boosted annual revenue by more than 55% in just one year. The gains stem from improved efficiency, a stronger commercial focus, and better client service.

Critically, vessels that had shifted to rival regional drydocks are now returning to Tema. Operators cite faster turnaround times, better technical work, and a transformed management culture.

“Tema Shipyard today is unrecognizable,” one regional fleet operator said.

“We are confident in bringing our vessels back.”

The revival is backed by a reconstituted board chaired by Dr. Sipa Yankey, which has strengthened governance and long-term planning. TSY is now expanding beyond repairs into fabrication, offshore services, and shipbuilding.

Separately, management dismissed recent reports linking the shipyard to fish farming or fish sales, calling the claims entirely false.

TSY remains solely a maritime engineering and industrial services facility.

With ships returning, systems working, and revenues rising, Tema Shipyard is no longer rebuilding; it is leading.
