Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead during a confrontation with police after a daylight attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Tema Community 5.

The incident occurred on Monday, April 13, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., when the suspects approached a vendor at Aba Fosuah Plaza under the pretext of conducting a cash-out transaction.

According to a statement from the Tema Regional Police Command, signed by its Head of Public Affairs, ASP Dede Dzakpasu, one of the suspects, a pillion passenger on a motorcycle, asked the vendor to perform a transaction. As she reached into her bag for her phone, the suspect allegedly drew a pistol and demanded the bag containing cash.

A police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, deployed nearby for routine security duties, responded swiftly to a distress call and pursued the fleeing suspects.

The suspects, riding a black Royal motorcycle with registration number M-24-GE 778, allegedly opened fire on the pursuing officers near a junction close to Smart Hotel in Community 6.

Police returned fire, striking both suspects and causing them to fall from the motorcycle. They were rushed to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival.
