Reverend Mrs Alice-Ankutse Blunya, Synod Clerk of the Ho-East Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) Saturday stated that purity of the heart was the hallmark of a good Christian.
“Outward cleanliness by Christians without the corresponding inward cleanliness does not please God,” she said.
Rev Mrs Ankutse-Blunya stated this at the beginning of a two-day retreat for members of Catechist Union of the Presbytery at the Elorm Parish of the Church in Ho.
It was on the theme “Cleanliness is next to Godliness: the role of the Catechist.”
Rev Mrs Ankutse Blunya noted that filthy words, sexual immorality, arrogance, pride, greed, corruption and bribery were some of things that made Christian impure before God.
She therefore urged the Catechists to control their inner desire and away from these things to be “pure and clean before God and men.”
The Synod Clerk stated that they should also be at the forefront of the fight against open defecation, environmental degradation, and the menace of plastic waste.
“I urge you to use the pulpit to preach not only the Gospel but also the menace of open defecation, plastic waste, pollution of water bodies and dumping of waste materials in our gutters.”
Rev Mrs Ankutse-Blunya said these unpatriotic acts if not nipped in the bud would lead to a “catastrophe as diseases like malaria, typhoid and cholera would overwhelm us.”

Rev Wing Commander G.Y. Temadonku, Pastor in charge of the Elorm Parish in his welcoming address advised the Catechists that their title goes with duties and responsibilities and urged them to be an epitome of a good leader in their congregations and communities.
The retreat would be climaxed with the election of new executives for the Union.
