FIFA U17 WWCQ: Black Maidens cruise past Togo to progress to next round

Ghana’s U17 Women’s National Team, the Black Maidens, put up a commanding display to annihilate their Togolese counterparts 6-0 in the second leg of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Overall, the Black Maidens secured an emphatic 8-0 aggregate win to book a place in the next round, where they would face their Liberian counterparts.

The Black Maidens set the tempo early, opening the scoring in the seventh minute when Juliana Gyekyewaa rounded off a fine move with a confident finish.

Zeinab Shani doubled Ghana’s lead seven minutes later, calmly slotting home in the 14th minute as the hosts maintained relentless pressure on the Togolese defence.

Sekinatu Amadu added the third goal in the 20th minute, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback for Togo.

Ghana maintained their dominance, and Shani secured her brace just before halftime, scoring in the 43rd minute to give the Black Maidens a comfortable 4-0 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Ghana dictating play. Priscilla Mensah scored a well-taken finish in the 77th minute, bringing the score to 5-0, while captain Seidatu Wahab sealed the comprehensive victory with a stoppage-time strike.

The result confirms Ghana’s progression to the next stage of the qualifiers as they continue their quest for a place at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
