The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced government approval for the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to newly recruited teachers who were engaged under the 2024 financial clearance.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the GES said the approval was granted by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).
The directive covers eligible teachers whose salary arrears accumulated from August 1, 2024, to November 2025.
According to the GES, the move is part of broader efforts to regularise salary payments and resolve delays affecting teachers who had reported to post and commenced work within the period under review.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service wishes to inform the general public, especially newly recruited teachers, that approval has been granted for the payment of outstanding salary arrears associated with the utilisation of the 2024 financial clearance,” the statement, signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of the Public Relations Unit, said.
Under the approved payment plan, the arrears will be settled in instalments rather than a single lump sum. Disbursements are scheduled to begin in May 2026, with four months’ worth of arrears paid each month from May through August.
The GES explained that the staggered approach is designed “to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in the disbursement process” and to facilitate proper validation and processing through the CAGD.
Regional directors have been directed to communicate the arrangement to heads of schools to ensure all eligible staff are duly informed.
“Management assures all staff of its continued commitment to their welfare and appreciates their patience and cooperation,” the statement added.
