A fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company Limited’s (GRIDCo) Akosombo Substation in the Eastern Region has disrupted electricity supply to several parts of the country.
The incident occurred around 2:01 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, affecting operations at the facility and leading to a temporary interruption in power transmission, GRIDCo confirmed in a statement.
Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to the scene to bring the fire under control and assess the extent of damage.
Meanwhile, technical staff are working to stabilize the national grid and restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
“We wish to assure the public that our technical teams are actively working to manage the situation, and every effort is being made to stabilise the system and minimise disruptions,” GRIDCo said.
The company added that a full technical evaluation is currently underway to guide restoration efforts. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
