Four candidates writing the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been apprehended for alleged examination malpractice at the Accra Girls Senior High School centre.
The incident, which reportedly involved the exchange of examination scripts among the candidates, was uncovered during routine supervision at the centre.
The malpractice came to light during a monitoring visit by Dr Rosemond Wilson, Head of the Ghana National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
Speaking to journalists after inspecting activities at the centre, Dr. Wilson confirmed the incident and stated that it would be thoroughly investigated.
She emphasised that WAEC treats examination malpractice with the utmost seriousness, as such conduct undermines the credibility and integrity of the entire assessment system.
Dr. Wilson further noted that although the BECE is a crucial milestone in students’ academic journeys, it must be conducted under strict, fair conditions to uphold equity for all candidates.
