Black Sherif wins second Artiste of the Year award as R2Bees deliver show‑stopping performance

The 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) took place on Saturday at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, celebrating achievements in the Ghanaian music industry.

Black Sherif emerged as the top winner on the night, after claiming the coveted Artiste of the Year award for the second time, having first claimed his first in 2023.

He picked up a total of five awards, following a successful year driven by ‘Iron Boy’ album, having also received GHC 100,000 for winning best Album/EP of the Year.

Rapper Medikal followed with four awards. He won Best Hiplife/Hip‑Hop Artiste, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Most Popular Song of the Year for the hit single “Shoulder,” featuring Shatta Wale and Beeztrap KOTM.

Highlife musician Kofi Kinaata won two awards, while Moliy also claimed two honours, including International Collaboration of the Year, for her role on the “Shake It To The Max” remix.

Beyond the awards, the ceremony featured several performances. Music duo R2Bees delivered one of the highlights of the night, performing a selection of their hit songs to the delight of patrons at the venue.

Black Sherif also impressed with his stage performance on the night while Wendy Shay also delivered a masterclass performance and showcasing her piano skills.

Other artistes including Medikal, Lasmid and Samini also entertained the audience with live performances.

Gospel musician Diana Hamilton, who won Gospel Artiste of the Year, delivered a memorable live band performance, while Piesie Esther also staged a strong showing during the ceremony.

The 27th TGMA, which was largely a success, has generated widespread discussion on social media, with users reacting to surprise award outcomes and the variety of fashion styles displayed on the red carpet.
