The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested several suspects and seized quantities of illegal drugs following coordinated, intelligence-led anti-narcotics operations in parts of the Greater Accra and Oti Regions.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, NACOC said the weekend operations were part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and substance abuse nationwide.
In Greater Accra, the raids targeted identified drug dens in Kissieman, Dome, and Kwabenya. A separate operation was conducted at Alavanyo in the Oti Region.
According to the Commission, officers recovered suspected narcotic substances and other materials linked to illicit drug activities during the exercises.
All arrested suspects are in custody and are assisting with investigations pending prosecution, NACOC said.
The Commission did not disclose the exact number of suspects arrested, nor the specific types and quantities of drugs seized. It also declined to identify the officers involved in the operations.
The latest raids form part of a broader anti-drug campaign NACOC has been carrying out across the country this year.
Earlier in 2026, the Commission conducted a four-day operation in Greater Accra and the Eastern Region, leading to the arrest of suspected drug dealers in Ashiaman.
During that operation, officers seized cannabis, hashish, hashish oil, and cannabis-infused products, including drinks and toffees, from areas such as Circle, Avenor, and Labadi.
At the time, NACOC warned that some drug dealers were packaging narcotics in forms likely to appeal to young people and unsuspecting consumers.
On May 1, 2026, NACOC carried out an operation in Winneba ahead of the Aboakyiri Festival, targeting known drug hotspots in the Effutu Municipality.
Several suspects were arrested, and quantities of suspected narcotics were seized.
In another operation on April 30, 2026, the Commission intercepted a 40-foot trailer carrying approximately five million tablets of Tapentadol 250mg believed to be destined for Niger.
Four suspects were arrested in connection with that case, which investigators suspect is linked to a wider cross-border drug trafficking network.
