The Fisheries Enforcement Unit (FEU) has arrested two inshore fishing operators at the Tema Fishing Harbour.
The operation, carried out on Monday morning, was led by Commodore Faustina Anokye Boakye, Coordinator of the Unit.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were operating without valid fishing licenses and were also found to be using inappropriate fishing gear, both infractions of Ghana’s fisheries regulations.
Following their arrest, the two operators were transferred to the Tema Police, where they will undergo further investigation and be processed for court.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, this enforcement action aligns with its ongoing national campaign against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The Ministry praised the FEU for its alertness and prompt response, emphasizing that robust enforcement is key to safeguarding the country’s fish stocks and encouraging sustainable fishing practices.
