A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video showing him allegedly assaulting a female student on campus, the Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed.
The arrest was first announced by the GES Public Relations Officer, Daniel Fenyi, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
“The Nyinahin Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student has been arrested. The regional education directorate is investigating the matter. A full report will be submitted to HQ,” Mr. Fenyi wrote.
Two hours later, he issued an update revealing that the student had also been taken into custody.
“The student seen in the viral video fighting with the teacher has been arrested along with the teacher. Both are undergoing medical examination for any potential harm. Investigations continue,” he stated.
In the video, the teacher is seen repeatedly striking the student before allegedly lifting and throwing her to the ground.
Bystanders are heard urging him to remember that the student was a girl, to which the teacher, visibly agitated, responded, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear, though earlier reports suggested a dispute over hostel fees may have preceded the incident.
The Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has since launched an investigation and is expected to submit a detailed report to GES headquarters.
Both individuals are reportedly undergoing medical examinations.
The outcome of the investigation will determine disciplinary or legal action against the teacher, as well as any potential sanctions or support for the student.
