Some women in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have added their voices to a call for lasting peace in the Municipality, saying that the ongoing conflict is negatively affecting family life and the well-being of households.
Speaking during a press conference organised by labour unions in the area, in which they participated, the women expressed concern that the insecurity and fear resulting from the unrest have created tension in many homes.
According to them, their husbands are constantly worried about their safety, especially at night, making it difficult for them to carry out satisfactorily their responsibilities on the matrimonial beds and maintain normal family relationships.
Mansa, one of the women, recounted, the once enjoyable intimacy at night has become nightmarish, indicating her husband now fulfills that duty hurriedly and becoming paranoid with footsteps.
Madam Peace Asabi, a trader and Madam Ntebe Adwoa, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency noted that persistent fear and uncertainty have affected the emotional and psychological well-being of many families, with some households living in constant anxiety due to the conflict.
They added that some of the men have even fled the town for their own safety.
They therefore appealed to all stakeholders, including community leaders, security agencies, government officials, and the youth, to work together to restore peace to the area.
They also stressed that peace remains essential for the development of the Municipality and the welfare of families, businesses, schools and health facilities and especially their husbands is essential.
The women urged residents to embrace dialogue, unity and peaceful coexistence to bring an end to the conflict and allow normal life to return to the area.
