258 arrested following violent disturbances in Nsawam-Adoagyiri

The Eastern South Regional Police Command, working with the National Operations Directorate, has arrested 258 individuals linked to violent disturbances that rocked Nsawam-Adoagyiri on July 7, 2026.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects, mostly youth, allegedly engaged in a spree of lawlessness that left the community in fear.

The offences include looting of shops, setting fire to an ECG transformer, vandalising the Oko Anadwo Palace, and damaging an astro turf facility. Mobile money vendors were also reportedly robbed during the chaos.

During the operation, police recovered two locally manufactured firearms, quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and tablets believed to be tramadol and Viagra.

Several mobile phones were also seized.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

DSP David Fianko-Okyere, head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Eastern South Region, assured residents that security measures have been reinforced to protect lives and property.

He urged anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station and cautioned the public, particularly the youth, to remain law-abiding and avoid acts that threaten peace and security.
