A police chief inspector stationed in the Ashanti Region is under official investigation following allegations that he owns unauthorised wooden structures at Asafo BB, which are being rented out to commercial sex workers and used for illicit drug activities.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the probe in a press statement issued on July 10, describing the allegations as “serious” and assuring the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
The case came to light after Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi publicly claimed that some police officers were behind the ownership of illegal structures at Asafo, behind the COCOBOD building, which had allegedly been converted into hubs for prostitution and narcotics sales.
Mr Boadi made the remarks following a demolition exercise carried out by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
The exercise targeted unauthorised structures that were obstructing waterways and hindering access for desilting major drains ahead of the rainy season.
The KMA has since defended the demolition, stating it was part of broader efforts to clear watercourses and prevent flooding in the area, and not specifically directed at any individuals.
Investigations into the police chief inspector’s alleged involvement are ongoing.
