The Ministry of the Interior has announced a relaxation of the curfew imposed on communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, effective immediately.

In a statement signed by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the revised curfew now runs daily from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

This is a significant easing from the previous restriction of 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. , which had been in place since June 19, 2026.

The adjustment, made on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, applies to twelve communities: Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.

While residents now have extended daytime hours for movement and commerce, the Ministry stressed that the total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons remains fully enforced across all affected areas.

Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Ministry appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and the general public to remain calm and resolve all disputes through lawful and peaceful channels.

It also urged full cooperation with security agencies as efforts continue to restore lasting peace and stability to the municipality.
