The Upper West Regional Police Command has dismantled a motorbike theft syndicate operating within the Wa Municipality and surrounding areas, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of seventeen (17) stolen motorbikes.
The operation was triggered by a report filed on July 11, 2026, involving a black Luojia motorbike (Reg. No. M-21-UW 3512) stolen from the Ghana National Fire Service premises in Jirapa.
The victim promptly disseminated details of the theft, aiding police intelligence efforts.
Acting on a tip-off, officers arrested Nasiru Muftawu at Loho in possession of the stolen bike. His interrogation led to the arrest of three additional suspects: Basit Muftawu alias Posey (19), Issahaku Maruf alias Katel (22), and Mohammed Ali alias Geewaa (18). Further exhibits were recovered from Rashid Kankan (20), Mutala Rashad (20), and Haruna Hamdan alias DJ (20).
Sustained investigations resulted in the recovery of sixteen (16) more motorbikes stolen from UBIDS, Chakor, and Glamon within the Wa Municipality.
All suspects have been arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court and remanded into police custody. They are scheduled to reappear on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Regional Police Command urges victims of motorbike theft to visit the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents for identification and retrieval of their property.
