The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a tipper truck transporting 5,039 compressed parcels of suspected narcotic substances at Afienya.
The police arrested two suspects and rejected a GHC150,000 bribe offered in an attempt to secure the release of the vehicle and its cargo.
The breakthrough was announced on Thursday, July 23, 2026, by the Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, during a press briefing on the Command’s anti-crime operations.
According to DCOP Asiedu, the truck was intercepted during an intelligence-led anti-drug operation.
The two suspects who were arrested have since been remanded into custody.
While in detention, one of the suspects approached officers with a GHC150,000 bribe in a bid to compromise the investigation.
“Our officers rejected the alleged GHC150,000 bribe,” DCOP Asiedu stated.
“This act of integrity underscores the Ghana Police Service’s unwavering commitment to professionalism and the fight against organised crime.”
The seized narcotics remain in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are pursuing other individuals believed to be connected to the trafficking network.
The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to intelligence-led policing, enhanced patrols, and inter-agency collaboration to rid the region of criminal activity.
