The National Peace Council has urged students to act as ambassadors of peace by promoting respect and tolerance in schools and communities.
The call was made during a Peace Education and Sensitisation Engagement with students of GHANATA Senior High School, Dodowa, in the Greater Accra Region, as part of the Council’s outreach programme.
Mrs Janet Sarney‑Kuma, Director of Capacity Development and Outreach at the NPC, cautioned against bullying, violence and discrimination.
She conducted an interactive session on conflict management and peaceful coexistence, explaining that the programme aimed to instil values of peace and responsible citizenship among students in second‑cycle institutions.
During the interaction, students identified common sources of conflict including student‑to‑student fights, disagreements and student‑to‑teacher conflicts.
Mrs Sarney‑Kuma encouraged them to appreciate diversity and resolve differences through dialogue rather than confrontation.
The students were guided to make a peace pledge, and she urged them to report bullying incidents promptly to housemasters, housemistresses, the school counselling unit and the headmistress.
Madam Constance Amofa, Headmistress of GHANATA Senior High School, thanked the NPC team for the session and urged students to adopt the lessons shared.
The Peace Education and Sensitisation programme is one of the NPC’s flagship initiatives aimed at nurturing responsible citizenship, preventing violence and fostering a culture of peace among Ghana’s youth.
Through sustained engagements in schools, the Council seeks to empower students to become advocates for peaceful coexistence and contribute to building a united society.
