The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men from opposite ends of the religious spectrum, one an Imam, the other an Apostle, over separate video recordings in which they are seen making inflammatory remarks capable of igniting interfaith tensions.
Masud Abdullah, 35, an Imam at a mosque in Ntensere in the Ashanti Region, was picked up after a sermon in which he allegedly called for violence against anyone who insults Prophet Mohammed.
In a parallel development, Apostle Daniel JY Adjei was also taken into custody by the Police Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team for a video laced with derogatory slurs against the same prophet.
While both cases are being investigated independently, authorities say they reflect a worrying trend of religious figures using pulpits and social media platforms to stoke division rather than promote harmony.
The Police Service has made it clear: freedom of worship does not grant a license to threaten, intimidate, or incite.
Both suspects will face court proceedings as investigations progress, and the public, especially faith leaders and online commentators, is being urged to weigh their words carefully in the interest of national stability.
