The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal for the online capture and uploading of candidates’ school choices for the 2026 senior high school placement exercise.
The portal will be accessible from Monday, August 24, to Thursday, August 27, 2026, giving heads of Junior High Schools (JHSs) a four-day window to submit the selection data of all eligible candidates.
In a directive dated August 24 and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES stated that the exercise is a critical part of preparations for the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
Headteachers who have not yet completed the uploading of candidates’ school choices on the CSSPS portal for pre-testing have been directed to do so by the close of work on Monday, August 24, the same day the WAEC portal opens.
They are then required to capture and upload the candidates’ data on the WAEC portal within the stipulated four-day period.
The GES noted that the WAEC portal allows the same school identification number and password to be used simultaneously on multiple computers, a feature designed to help schools with large candidate numbers capture and upload data concurrently, ensuring the exercise is completed on time.
Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education, along with Examination Coordinators, have been directed to closely supervise the process and ensure that the data of all eligible candidates are properly captured, verified, and submitted.
Regional Directors of Education have also been tasked with communicating the directive to all relevant schools and ensuring strict compliance.
The GES stressed the importance of capturing and submitting all eligible candidates’ data within the four-day window to facilitate a smooth 2026 placement exercise.
