Joint military and police teams have arrested 11 individuals and recovered a cache of weapons and security-related items at Kromase, near Nkwanta, in what authorities are describing as a major blow to criminal elements in the area.
The operation, which commenced in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, was led by Major Muktar Saani, Combat Team Commander, and formed part of Exercise STARLIGHT STRETCH III, an ongoing security exercise aimed at sharpening the Ghana Army’s capacity to neutralise emerging threats.
The joint team comprising personnel from the Ghana Army and the Ghana Police Service conducted targeted searches of selected premises in the community. The exercise was concluded by 8:30 am.
Recovered items included a pump-action gun, live ammunition, a body armour vest, a locally manufactured ammunition belt, and a police uniform, items that security analysts say raise serious concerns about the possession of official attire by unauthorised persons.
All 11 suspects are currently in custody at the operational base, where they are assisting both the police and military with ongoing investigations.
Authorities have hailed the operation as a testament to the power of intelligence-driven security interventions and the growing synergy between the military and police in safeguarding peace in the Nkwanta enclave and the Oti Region at large.
Residents in the area have been assured of a heightened security presence as investigations continue.
