The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has ordered the immediate closure of Okuapemman Senior High School and Mount Sinai Senior High School following violent student clashes in the early hours of Wednesday that left six students injured and property razed.
The unrest, which erupted around 2 a.m., resulted in the burning and destruction of school property.
Six students from Okuapemman SHS sustained injuries during the incident.
According to the school’s Headmaster, Rev. Richard Koranteng Afari, four of the injured students have been treated and discharged.
At the same time, the remaining two were still in admission as of Wednesday evening.
The cause of the clashes remains unknown, with investigations currently underway. Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu Bempah, confirmed that security agencies have launched a full probe into the incident.
Eastern Regional Minister, Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, announced the closure after leading a REGSEC delegation to the schools on Wednesday for a first-hand assessment of the damage.
The delegation surveyed the extent of destruction before ordering the shutdown to prevent further violence.
Both schools remain closed until further notice as authorities work to restore calm and establish the circumstances that led to the clashes.
