Two individuals at the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) centre in Accra have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a bribery scheme related to senior high school (SHS) placements.
The suspects, identified by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) as Vicentia Appiah Antwi, 24, and Suzzy Owusu, 18, are accused of collecting money from parents under the pretext of securing placements for their children in preferred senior high schools.
According to police, the pair charged victims between GHC9,500 and GHC22,000 per student, with fees varying based on the school’s prestige.
The arrests were made on Thursday at approximately 1:30 p.m. by a team from the Ministry of Education, acting on the directive of the sector minister, Haruna Iddrisu.
The operation was initiated after twin sisters reported the suspects’ demands to the minister and provided evidence.
The Ministry of Education stated that the minister, upon reviewing the evidence, alerted security services, leading to the arrests at the Resolution Centre.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly named two accomplices: Nana Yaw Boateng, a medical doctor at Kwadaso Hospital in Kumasi, and Alex Asumani, also known as Lexus.
The two suspects have been released on police enquiry bail as investigations continue to apprehend the other individuals involved.
