Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has called for the Black Stars to be disbanded and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) dissolved following the national team’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
“As for the Black Stars, my position before is my position today. Disband the team. Sack the FA. Let FIFA ban us for 2 years. Take the time to properly rebuild the team. Truth hurts but the patch work is worse. Cheers,” he wrote on X.
Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, with Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan putting the Black Stars ahead before The Gambia fought back to win.
The loss came just days after Ghana opened their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Ivory Coast.
The back-to-back losses leave Ghana facing an uphill battle to qualify for the 2027 AFCON, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The Black Stars are bidding to return to the continental showpiece after failing to qualify for the 2025 edition in Morocco.
