The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested eight individuals in connection with a violent assault and an alleged internet fraud operation in Kotokrom, a suburb in the Sunyani West Municipality.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit on October 9, 2026, the arrests followed a distress call received on October 4, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m. The call reported that a group of people was attacking a person at Kotokrom.
The Regional Operations Unit responded to the scene, where they found the victim, identified as Godstime Umukoro, aged 21, with multiple marks of assault on his body.

Police identified Peter Mbam (24), Godwin Moses (26), Humble Oweifah (18), Osas Ogbemudia (30), Samuel Aisosa (22), Ashile Godbess (24), Alexander Uyuo (30), and Patrick Romans (25) as the suspects.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to subjecting the victim to severe beating as part of an initiation process into the “Internet fraud business.” They claimed they had undergone the same initiation themselves.
Preliminary investigations have revealed a larger criminal operation. Police say a chairman identified as Nwachukwu King Augustine brought the suspects to Ghana.
The group allegedly lures innocent victims by using downloaded images of foreign military men to create fake profiles.
They then initiate chats with victims under the pretext that they are soldiers stationed at the war front in Yemen. Once they collect money from victims, they pay the funds into their boss’s account.
The Bono Regional Police Command commended the public for swiftly reporting the incident and assured the community of continued collaboration in fighting crime in the region.
