The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vetting Committee in the Ashanti Region has cleared 63 out of 65 aspirants to contest various regional executive positions.
Mr. Yaw Boateng Gyan, Chairman of the Vetting Committee and former National Organizer of the party, announced this at the end of a two-day vetting exercise at the NDC Regional headquarters in Kumasi.
The disqualified aspirants are Abass Adams, who was seeking the Deputy Youth Organizer position, and Prince Ofori Atta, an aspirant for Deputy Secretary.
Mr. Gyan, who described the exercise as largely peaceful and successful, said the disqualifications were based on technical grounds but declined to disclose the specific reasons.
He said the affected aspirants had the right to petition for a review of the decisions.
A breakdown of the cleared candidates showed that two aspirants would contest the Chairmanship, eight the Vice Chairmanship, three the Secretary position and three the Deputy Secretary position.
Six candidates were cleared for Organizer, while the Deputy Organizer position attracted the highest number 14 aspirants, whiles aspirants for Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer positions are unopposed.
Two aspirants were cleared up for Communications Officer, three for Deputy Communications Officer, three for Women’s Organizer and three for Deputy Women’s Organiser.
Four candidates would contest the Youth Organizer position, while six were cleared for the Deputy Youth Organiser and the Zongo Caucus Coordinator position attracted four aspirants.
Mr. Boateng Gyan urged the candidates to conduct clean and decent campaigns, cautioning them against insults and personal attacks and rather focus on communicating policies and vision to delegates to preserve the party’s unity.
“We are one family, so there shouldn’t be any friction whatsoever. Refrain from insults. Go out there, share your message, and if they believe in it, they will vote for you,” he said.
Mr. Boateng said all aspirants had demonstrated their commitment to the party by seeking to serve, adding that their contributions would be important to the NDC’s preparations for the upcoming general elections.
He said the party could not afford to leave any member behind and called on the aspirants to work together after the elections to strengthen its fortunes in the region.
