The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has joined members of the Ghana Journalists Association and family of late investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, to demand justice for his death.

Ahmed Suale died on January,16th 2019 after unknown gunmen shot him twice in the chest and once in his neck in his vehicle. He was a member of the famous Tiger Eye PI team, run by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

One year on, his death is yet to be properly investigated and perpetrators identified and brought to justice.

In a letter written by the IFJ to the GJA, it said, “

The assassination of our colleague Ahmed Suale cannot be allowed to become just another statistic in the grim toll of journalists killed and impunity for the assassins.

Many individuals and the GJA have continuously called on the government to pay more attention to the protection of journalist in Ghana, and show commitment to ensuring their freedom by bringing the murderers of Mr Suale to book.

The letter from the IFJ signed by the president Younes Mjahed and general secretary, Anthony Bellanger read;

“On behalf of the International Federation of Journalists and its 600,000
members in 141 countries we send solidarity and greetings to Ghana
Journalists Association and all your partners and colleagues.
The assassination of our colleague Ahmed Suale cannot be allowed to become just another statistic in the grim toll of journalists killed and impunity for the assassins.

The failure to properly investigate, to prosecute the killers and the intellectual authors of such crimes not only denies the family, friends and colleagues of Ahmed of justice but it emboldens all those who would seek to silence journalists, who try to draw a veil over their criminal, fraudulent or abusive behaviour. It denies citizens the right to free and independent information. It shrinks democracy.

For all these reasons your meeting today is vital. For all these reasons we, and all our affiliates worldwide, stand in solidarity
with you. We remain ready to take any further actions you require to support the GJA and its partners in demanding justice and an end to impunity.”
