Health Authorities in China on 7th of January, confirmed an outbreak of the novel Coronavirus in Wuhan Province in China.
Confirmed reports suggest, the disease can be transferred from person to person and the World Health Organisation (WHO) has called on all countries to initiate preventive and control measures.
In a communique signed by the Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Ghana has taken steps to protect the general public against the disease.
According to the communique;
“Alert messages have been sent to all regions in Ghana on the outbreak in addition to guidance information on the disease.
Enhanced surveillance at points of entry especially Kotoka International Airport.”
He assures the public, health facilities in Ghana are ready and have the everything they need to attend to anyone should the virus be found in Ghana.
The communique, again entreated the general public and all stakeholders to support in efforts at preventing 2019-nCoV in Ghana.
“If contact with a sick person or potentially infected surfaces or objects occur, those involved must not touch their eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands,” the ministry said.
