Pirelli’s Cyber Tire can pass information about road conditions to drivers and can even talk to cars behind yours about what your tires are experiencing.
Pirelli announced that it has made a tire that can transmit road surface information, including potential dangerous conditions, through the 5G wireless network. It can also send information to other cars on the road.

The Pirelli Cyber Tire is equipped with an internal sensor, which will send data relative to the tire model, miles traveled, dynamic load, and warnings of potentially dangerous driving situations to the driver. During unsafe driving conditions, the information provided by the internal sensors will help the car’s driver-assist systems kick in.
It’ll also help other cars on the road be safe thanks to the 5G network. If the vehicle equipped with Pirelli’s 5G Cyber Tires starts to hydroplane, an alert could be sent to a car on the road behind it and warn that driver of the conditions ahead. Pirelli isn’t the first tire company to show something like this. Bridgestone also showed a connected-tire concept at the CES technology show this year that pairs with compatible driver-assist technology.
