ACUC leader urges NDC Council of Elders to enforce party discipline

Dr Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg, the Leader of the AfriKan Continental Union Consult (ACUC), has called on the Council of Elders of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to ensure its members desist from premature presidential campaigns and maintain focus on governance.

Dr Aziginaateeg made the call in an open letter to the Council of Elders of the NDC, copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

He commended the Council of Elders for cautioning party members against activities that could divert attention from the party’s mandate, arguing, however, that advisory statements alone might not be sufficient to ensure compliance.

According to him, effective party discipline requires not only guidance but also enforcement measures against actions that undermine unity and distract from governance.

Dr Aziginaateeg contended that the NDC was elected to implement its manifesto commitments and advance its development agenda rather than engage in internal leadership contests.

He further urged party members holding public office to focus on delivering results for Ghanaians instead of pursuing personal political ambitions.

He also called on President John Dramani Mahama, as leader of the party and president of the Republic, to safeguard the integrity of the party and ensure adherence to its principles.

He maintained that the Council of Elders should clarify the consequences for individuals who disregard directives aimed at preserving party unity and discipline and suggested sanctions including reprimands, suspensions, withdrawal of privileges, and other constitutionally sanctioned disciplinary measures.

Dr Aziginaateeg argued that maintaining discipline, accountability, and performance was critical to sustaining public confidence in the party and ensuring effective governance.

It further urged the NDC to remain focused on governance and national development while allowing future leadership contests to take place in accordance with the party’s constitution.
