The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of AflaoBorder School, Ketu South, is calling for the transfer of the headteacher, Madam Veronica Dzifa Zankoo, and some affected teachers over alleged “gross misconduct.”
Mr Salawu James, PTA Chairman, in a petition signed with other executives and Mr Mohammed Amuzu, Assembly member, cited ineffective leadership by the headteacher requiring urgent attention.
The petition alleged teacher misconduct, including excessive flogging, sacking learners for unpaid class fees, inhumane attitudes toward parents and students, truancy, immoral relationships with schoolgirls, and financial mismanagement.
“In recent times, the behaviour of the Headmistress and some teachers have led to significant disruptions within the school, affecting staff morale and student learning,” the petition stated.
The PTA requested the transfer of the headteacher and implicated teachers to restore effective leadership and a positive learning environment.
Some parents confirmed the PTA’s concerns. Madam Theresa Zigah said her three daughters had to take money from her shop to pay class fees to avoid punishment. Mr Raphael Atsu Bluvi complained that teachers demanded payment for missed classes despite informing them of his children’s hospitalisation.
Madam Rosemary Bleboo said teachers dedicated to students’ welfare had been transferred, undermining education quality.
In response, Madam Zankoo, recently recognised for her contributions to BECE performance, said some claims were new to her and attributed others to miscommunication, insisting that learners were never sacked for fees. She explained that payments for form three classes were agreed upon with parents to improve BECE results, while morning classes for primary five and six were optional.
Rev Charles Elikplim Dorkenoo, Public Relations Officer of the Ketu South Municipal Education Directorate, confirmed the issues had been brought to the attention of Mr Godwin Amelor, the Municipal Director, adding that a committee had been established to investigate the claims, whose outcomes would guide further actions.
