Alagumgube Group’s work on Bolgatanga Airport earns praise from GACL CEO and Board during site inspection

A high-powered delegation from the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), led by its Chief Executive Officer and comprising 25 Board Members, conducted a pivotal inspection of the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site on Wednesday, signaling a significant push toward the project’s realization.

The visit aimed to assess the readiness of the site and engage with local stakeholders whose sustained efforts have kept the project alive.

The delegation singled out The Alagumgube Group, founded by Gabriel Agambila, for extraordinary commendation after discovering the extent of the group’s voluntary, self-funded contributions.

In a revelation that highlighted deep community commitment, Gabriel Agambila detailed how the group had taken the initiative to grade the entire runway using private resources, without waiting for state funding.

“This airport is very important to our people. We did not wait for funding before acting. We used our own resources because access had to be maintained,” Agambila stated.

He further disclosed that a philanthropic native of the region had personally financed the crucial cadastral plan, a key legal document for the project.

Additionally, for the past three years, The Alagumgube Group has repeatedly repaired washed-out culverts leading to the site during each rainy season to preserve accessibility all at its own cost.

The GACL CEO was visibly impressed, praising the group’s dedication in a video from the site. “What you have done here using your own resources is commendable. It shows true commitment to development,” the CEO remarked.

While a tight schedule prevented a ceremonial photograph, the engagement was substantive. Following the inspection, Agambila expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that the GACL leadership had provided assurance that construction could potentially commence in the second quarter of this year.

“Their assurance has restored confidence and hope among our people,” he said.

The inspection is widely seen as a critical step forward for the long-awaited Bolgatanga Airport, a project poised to enhance regional connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and accelerate development in the Upper East Region.
