Amansie West police gets new office accommodation

In a major boost to law enforcement and community safety in the Amansie West District, the Minerals Development Fund (MDF) has commissioned an ultra-modern office accommodation for police officers in the district.

The new facility forms part of the Fund’s broader commitment to promoting security, responsible mining, and sustainable development in mining-affected communities across the country.

The modern office, which has been officially handed over to the Ghana Police Service, is expected to improve accommodation and operational conditions for officers serving within the Manso Nkwanta Divisional Command.

This initiative is seen as a vital step towards enhancing the presence and effectiveness of law enforcement in Amansie West and surrounding areas, which are major centers of mining activity.

Dr Hannah Louisa Bisiw, Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund, speaking at the ceremony, reaffirmed the Fund’s dedication to ensuring that Ghana’s mineral wealth directly benefited communities that host mining operations.

She said the project demonstrated MDF’s vision of fostering responsible and sustainable mining through strategic investments in community infrastructure, social development, and environmental protection.

Dr. Bisiw explained that, MDF established by the Minerals Development Fund Act, 2016 (Act 912), was created to channel a portion of mineral royalties into projects that improved living standards in mining communities.

She noted that the Manso Nkwanta police project reflected the Fund’s resolve to use mining proceeds for tangible and lasting development outcomes that promoted peace and safety.

According to her, mining districts often faced heightened security concerns, and the MDF had prioritized support for the Ghana Police Service to ensure a stable environment that encouraged lawful mining practices and community harmony.

“The Minerals Development Fund is deeply committed to supporting communities affected by mining.

We believe that sustainable development and responsible mining must be anchored on strong security structures that protect people, property, and the environment.”

She commended the Ghana Police Service for its continued dedication to maintaining law and order in mining areas and urged community members to support the police in their work to sustain peace in the Amansie enclave.

Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, praised the Minerals Development Fund for its proactive efforts to improve security infrastructure in the region.

He observed that the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) had made great strides in combating criminal activities, including armed robberies and attacks on mobile money vendors, and emphasized that, the new police office would further enhance the police’s effectiveness and morale.

“This commissioning is a significant milestone in our collective quest to ensure safety and stability in our communities.

The new facility will not only motivate police officers but also strengthen security across the Amansie West District and its neighboring communities”.

Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah II, paramount chief of Manso Nkwanta traditional area, expressed profound gratitude to the Minerals Development Fund and the government for the continuous support to his traditional area.

He said the construction of the police office was a long-awaited intervention that would ease accommodation challenges for police officers and enhance their operational readiness.

“We are extremely grateful to the Minerals Development Fund and the government for this timely intervention.

For years, Manso Nkwanta has struggled with inadequate security infrastructure, but this project brings renewed hope and confidence to our people”, he stated.

He appealed for additional developmental projects, particularly in road infrastructure, education, and health, to complement the gains made in security enhancement.

The commissioning ceremony brought together dignitaries including traditional leaders, security officials, assembly members, representatives from the Minerals Development Fund, and residents of Manso Nkwanta.
