18 months after his appointment, Spaniard Unai Emery has been sacked as Arsenal manager.
The Gunners confirmed Emery’s departure a day after their Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Arsenal said the decision had been “taken due to results and performances not being at the level required”.
They have not won in seven games and lost 2-1 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night. It is their worst competitive run without a victory since February 1992, which was eight games under George Graham.
Former midfielder Freddie Ljungberg will take of the team temporarily.
Emery was appointed in May 2018, succeeding long-serving manager Arsene Wenger.
In his debut season, he led Arsenal to Europa League final – lost 4-1 to Chelsea – and finished fifth in the Premier League.
