Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, has inaugurated an 11-member committee to advance proposals arising from the review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
A statement issued by Dr Ayine said the Constitution Review Implementation Committee (CRIC) would examine the Government’s position paper on the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) and develop a framework for implementing the proposals.
The CRIC is chaired by Ms Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew, Presidential Legal Counsel and former Attorney-General.
The Committee’s membership includes Dr Justice Srem Sai, Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Ms Charlotte Osei, Dr Rainer Akumoerigya and Ms Emelia Ankomah, Majority Representative.
Other members are Mr Samuel Passah, Local Government Representative; Mr Oliver Baker Vormawor, Secretary; Ms Salamatu Illiasu, Draftsperson; and Mr Eric Owusu-Mensah, Parliamentary Liaison.
The inauguration follows the Government’s announcement of its position paper on recommendations made by the CRC, chaired by Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh and established by President John Dramani Mahama last year.
The statement said the Committee would examine the Government’s position paper alongside the CRC report and develop a comprehensive framework for implementing the proposals.
It said the Committee’s work formed part of the Government’s commitment to an inclusive and transparent constitutional review process that “reflects the aspirations of the Ghanaian people and strengthens our democratic governance.”
