Avenor Tutudoza 2025: ‘Children’s Durbar and Cultural Day held

Over 23 basic schools from both public and private categories have exhibited their talents through culture and tradition as part of activities marking this year’s Avenor Tutudoza (festival) dubbed ‘Children’s Durbar and Cultural Day.’

The event, held at the Akatsi Roman Catholic Basic school park, saw some amazing performances such as, drumming, poetry recitals, chorography, gymnastics, drum language, and a display of notable traditional dancing skills from the young basic school pupils.

Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, the Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, in a welcome address, explained that the event would go a long way to demonstrate the love and commitment to the Ghanaian culture.

“Today, the children of Avenor land will demonstrate creativity, talent, and boundless energy as they celebrate our rich culture, traditions, and values.”

Mr Ayaana, on behalf of the Education Directorate, expressed his appreciation to the chiefs and people of the Avenor Traditional Area for allowing the schools to learn and to showcase the rich culture of Avenor.

“This programme is fully sponsored by the Avenor Traditional Council.

The good performances from the school children-the numbers alone are a testament to the fact that the children are ready to deliver on the investments that have been made in them,” he said.

He commended the various Head teachers and teachers as well as parents and guardians for nurturing what he called ‘these young minds’ for their sacrifice, love, and constant support.

“Dear children, we celebrate you, honour your curiosity, your courage, imagination and joy,” he added.

Torgbui Tali Gafatsi III, Chairman of this year’s Central Planning Committee of the Festival, in a brief address, expressed utmost surprise about the high patronage from the various schools and their excellent deliveries during the event.

He thanked the Education Directorate for championing the success of the event and assured that the initiative would be sustained during their festival celebrations.

Mr Mawuli-Vava Gagbe, the Assistant Director of Education in charge of Human Resources, who chaired the occasion, also expressed gratitude to all actors in the organisation of the event.

Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive of Akatsi South in a speech read on his behalf, pledged their full support in ensuring quality education in the area.

He further promised the Avenor Traditional Council of their readiness for successful festival celebrations during the entire period.

The theme for this year’s festival is, “Securing the Future of Avenor through Skills Acquisition, Employment and Economic Growth.”

It would be climaxed by a grand durbar on Saturday, November 29 at the Akatsi Central Market lorry station.

Some activities such as, clean-up exercise, health walk, fashion show, and Avenor Strongest, have preceded the ongoing celebrations.

The rest include the annual pilgrimage to Datsutagba, paying homage to the Paramount Chief at Avenorpeme, beauty pageant, and artists’ night.
