Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has withdrawn from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) investigation committee probing allegations of vote-buying in the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.
Mr Ayariga cited the Majority Caucus’s call for the primary’s cancellation and disqualification of implicated candidates as the reason for his withdrawal.
“In view of the position taken by the Caucus of the NDC in Parliament regarding cancellation of the Ayawaso East primary, it has become untenable for me to serve on the Investigation Committee set up by the National Executive of the NDC,” Mr Ayariga stated on X, formerly Twitter.
He has notified the party to appoint a replacement.
The NDC had formed the committee, chaired by Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, to investigate allegations of inducement and vote-buying during the Saturday, February 7, primary.
The committee is expected to submit its report by February 10, 2026.
The controversy centres on allegations that delegates received items such as television sets and boiled eggs, sparking claims of vote-buying.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has recalled Mr Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the primary winner, from his role as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.
