Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has launched the GH COVID-19 Tracker Mobile App aimed at slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

He formally launched the application at a virtual concert in Accra on Monday, 13 April, saying Ghana is one of the few countries to deploy such a tracker to chase the virus.

While launching the App, he said, “It will help us easily track people with the virus, [and] those who have had contact with others. It is also useful in quarantine reliability, in case certain individuals need self-quarantine.”

Dr. Bawumia said Ghana is one of the few countries to deploy such a tracker to chase the virus. He also urged Ghanaians to utilize the App.

“We are ahead of the countries such as the USA and UK in this and we are also pursuing a strategy of aggressive testing.”

The latest figures of confirmed cases in Ghana have sharply risen from 408 to 566, with eight deaths and four recoveries.

The COVID-19 Tracker will be available for download this week, according to the Communications Minister, Ursula Akufo-Addo, said at the launch which aired live on television and social media.

Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene, Diana Asamoah, Great Ampong, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, Lucky Mensah and Dada KD are among musicians who performed at the launch.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has imposed restrictions on movement and banned social gatherings.

So far 10 out of 16 regions have recorded COVID-19 cases.
