The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced three armed robbers to twenty years imprisonment each, for their involvement in a violent highway robbery incident that took place at Fiankoma near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.
The convicts- Peter Boadi, also known as Kwao Ziggy, Daniel Kwaku Owusu, and Eric Kwaku Danso – were found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery after a thorough trial.
The judgment, delivered on Monday, October 27, 2025, by the court presided by Mr. Isaac Appiatu, came after months of intensive investigations by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command that led to the successful prosecution of the case.
According to police records, the incident occurred on April 29, 2024, when the three men, armed with guns, attacked travellers along the Jacobu–Anwiankwanta Road near Fiankoma.
The gang robbed their victims of two iPhones and GH₵7,000 in cash.
During the attack, they also forced one of their victims, a Chinese national, to transfer GH₵30,000 via mobile money to an account belonging to an accomplice.
Following the attack, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command launched intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of the suspects between June and September 2024 at various locations within the Ashanti Region.
During a search at the residence of the first accused, Peter Boadi, at Obuasi Bogobiri, police discovered one foreign-made Bruna pistol, one locally manufactured pistol and several rounds of ammunition.
These weapons and ammunition were kept as exhibits and later presented in court as key evidence.
The prosecution team presented credible evidence, including witness testimonies and forensic findings, which convinced the court that the accused persons were indeed responsible for the robbery.
The court dismissed the defence’s arguments as unfounded and subsequently convicted the trio on all counts.
Mr Appiatu, delivering the sentence, underscored the seriousness of the offence and the need for the court to impose a custodial sentence that would serve as a deterrent to others who might be tempted to engage in similar acts of criminality.
He stated that highway robberies endangered innocent lives and disrupted social and economic activities, hence the need for severe punishment.
The Ghana Police Service has commended the investigators and prosecutors for their professionalism and commitment to justice.
The Service reaffirmed its determination to pursue all criminal elements who threaten public safety and ensure they face the full rigour of the law.
The conviction has brought relief to residents and commuters along the Jacobu–Anwiankwanta Road, who have in recent times expressed concern about rising robbery cases in the area.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has assured the public that it will continue to intensify patrols and surveillance to prevent further incidents and safeguard lives and property.
