The Nigerian Diaspora Commission has issued a communique disassociating itself from the ‘Door of Return’ programme trending on social media.

The Commission says the said program does not have their authorisation or that of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In a lengthy Twitter post, the Commission said, it had together with the Lagos State Government, the African Door of Return Experience and the African Renaissance Foundation, been organising the Door of Return in Badagry, Lagos for the past three years since 2017.

The statement went on to say, “For the avoidance of doubt, the 2019 edition took place on October 15th to 20th 2019, and the program was held in Badagry, Lagos with the theme: “A *PILGRIMAGE TO THE MOTHERLAND, THE THIRD COMING* ”with participants from across the globe.

After pictures of the said program surfaced online, many individuals have seriously criticised Nigeria for openly copying Ghana’s ‘Year of Return’ Initiative, but poorly.
