The Biakoye District Assembly in the Oti Region, has distributed relief items to 87 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the area.

The initiative, supported by the central government through PWDs Common Fund, provided cash, refrigerators, fufu machines and cassava machines to the beneficiaries.

Mr Erica Opong, District Chief Executive (DCE), urged the beneficiaries to utilise the resources wisely and not sell the items, emphasising that doing so would undermine their purpose.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said the assembly was planning to monitor the use of the resources and the performance of the businesses.

Mr Opong said this marked a significant milestone for the district, demonstrating the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups.

Beneficiaries of the relief items distribution exercise have expressed their sincere appreciation to the government, Biakoye District Assembly, and the Social Welfare Department for support.

Madam Jennifer Okugyeman and Madam Beauty Norvidzro, among others, commended the initiative, stating that it would make a significant impact on their lives.

The beneficiaries appreciated the Assembly’s efforts in ensuring that PWDs in the district received the necessary support.
