Mrs Jean-Marie Formadi, the Member of Parliament (MP) of Biakoye Constituency, has expressed her appreciation for the tireless efforts of teachers in the district, saying their contribution to nation building is invaluable.
Speaking at the Biakoye MP’s Teachers Awards, Mrs Formadi emphasised the crucial role teachers played in shaping the minds of future generations and preserving the district’s cultural heritage.
The MP recounted her time as a teacher in a rural village in the Eastern Region, where she walked a kilometer to school and back each day, and taught in challenging conditions with no network, no light and dusty roads.
“Anything you become, it is because of a teacher, I was taught by a teacher, and I could not have done it without them, emphasising the importance of recognising and rewarding teachers for their hard work”.
The event, themed: “Elevating the status of teachers for quality education, celebrating Biakoye’s Champions,” recognised and rewarded outstanding teachers who have made significant contributions to education in the area.
The honoured teachers received cash prizes, refrigerators, 32- inch televisions, and other rewards for their hard work and commitment.
Mr Kelvin Takando Ndolimor, a pupil teacher at Toviate D/A Primary School, emerged as the overall best teacher in the district, receiving a double door refrigerator freezer, flat-screen television, and a citation.
Mrs. Irene Jacuelinda Attabra, Oti Regional Education Director, has called for sustained support for teachers, emphasising their crucial role in shaping the future of the nation.
Mrs. Attabra commended the Biakoye District Education Directorate and the MP for initiating the award scheme.
She highlighted the importance of investing in teachers, stating that it is an investment in the future human capital of Biakoye.
“We must be deliberate in preparing the grounds for tomorrow’s champions, Elevating the status of teachers requires sustained partnerships and shared responsibility,” Mrs. Attabra added.
Mr. Eric Kwaku Opong, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Biakoye District, has expressed gratitude to teachers in the district for their tireless efforts in impacting knowledge to pupils.
Speaking to the event, the DCE commended teachers for their dedication to education, acknowledging the pivotal role they play in shaping the future of the district.
“The impact of a good teacher can last a lifetime, you are the backbone of our education system, and your efforts are truly appreciated,” the DCE stressed.
Mr Kelvin Takando Ndolimor, the district’s outstanding best teacher, has expressed his appreciation to the Biakoye District Education Directorate and the office of the member of parliament for recognising his efforts.
In an emotional acceptance speech, Mr Ndolimor promised to continue giving of his best to the district education directorate, saying,
‘’I am truly humbled by this recognition; I will continue to strive for excellence and contribute to the growth of education in our education.”
