Boawoman Cooperative Small Scale Mining Limited has held a public hearing on its proposed responsible mining operations at Chirano in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
The engagement aimed to educate residents on measures the company has put in place to protect water bodies, reduce dust, prevent environmental pollution, and highlight the benefits the project would bring to the community.
Speaking at the forum, Mr. John Bediako, Manager/Secretary of the company, explained the differences between community mining and responsible cooperative mining.

He said the initiative seeks to curb illegal mining, create employment, and promote sustainable mining practices.
Mr. Bediako noted that following its launch by Lands and Natural Resources Minister Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah last year, the company had received consent from traditional leaders to operate responsibly within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality and the wider Western North Region.

Mr. Sebastian Obeng, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, pledged full support for the initiative, highlighting its alignment with government efforts to protect land and water resources.
Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III, Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Chirano Traditional Area, commended the project for addressing illegal mining and urged the company to strictly adhere to regulatory guidelines to ensure peace and stability.
