Bono Minister inaugurates 2027 GHATUSA Games Local Organising Committee

Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboah, Bono Regional Minister, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2027 Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association (GHATUSA) Games.

To be hosted by the Sunyani Technical University, the GHATUSA Games is a national sporting event established for Technical Universities nationwide.

The committee, chaired by Professor Kwadwo Boateng Prempeh is tasked to ensure the proper planning and successful organisation of the event.

Other members include Mrs Evelyn Nsiah Asare, vice chair, and Nana Kwabena Sae II, Dr Miss Vida Owusu Prempeh, Mr Felix Danso, Dr Jacqueline Obeng, Mr Samuel Nketia, Mr Gabriel Awuah and Mr Francis Duah.

Speaking at a short ceremony in Sunyani, Mr Akwaboa, said: “As we inaugurate the LOC, we place a responsibility on you to plan, coordinate, and deliver a successful sporting event that reflects the values of excellence, integrity, and inclusiveness.”

“This is no small feat to achieve, but requires foresight, dedication, and teamwork”, he stated and expressed the confidence that with the caliber of the members and the LOC would meet the expectations of all.

Mr Akwaboa said hosting the GHATUSA Games was not merely about competition, but an opportunity to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the region, promote tourism, and boost the local economy.

He urged the committee to work diligently, transparently and inclusively, saying the success of the games would be measured not only with the quality of the games, but also by the legacy that would be left behind at the university, the region and the nation by extension.

Prof Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor of the STU, said the institution had a proud tradition of excellence in sports, however recently faced with challenges that put the university in lower ranking at the GHATUSA 2025 Games.

He expressed concern about inadequate sporting facilities, saying, “this problem is pronounced in the Bono Region, where, unlike some other regions, standard stadia equipped with tartan tracks and modern sporting infrastructure are available”.

Prof Adinkrah-Appiah said: “These limitations have hindered students and athletes from training adequately to enhance their skills and talents for competitive events nationwide”, and called for stakeholder support for the successful organisation of the 2027 GHATUSA Games.

“Let us embrace teamwork, inclusivity, and openness to new ideas and lead by example, inspire one another, and engage our wider community in this exciting initiative”, he advised.

Professor Prempeh, the Chairman of the Committee expressed appreciation to the confidence reposed in them and affirmed their commitment to organise a successful, inclusive, and memorable sporting event.
