Book inspires purpose-driven living among single women

A book titled Single and Being has been launched in Accra, urging single women to view their period of waiting as preparation for purposeful living.

The book explores the challenges and triumphs of single women, particularly those in their 30s and 40s, facing societal pressure to marry.

Authored by Miss Petrine Addae, who recently turned 40, the book examines societal expectations and misconceptions surrounding singleness, while encouraging women to embrace it with confidence and purpose.

Miss Addae highlighted how societal perceptions often pushed young people to rush into marriage to “beat the biological clock,” drawing from personal experience and socio-cultural observations.

Through her experiences and lessons from others, she inspires women to remain steadfast in faith and convictions while preparing for marriage and purposeful living.

“Be yourself and enjoy who you are. Be bold, you have God, treat yourself well and do not wait for the next phase of your life to enjoy. Enjoy each moment and make it count,” one passage read.

Speaking at the launch, Miss Addae said the book was anchored on three key pillars – posture, position and purpose – explaining that single women must maintain a posture of gratitude to God, position themselves to trust Him, and pursue a purpose-driven life.

She said that although marriage, children and material possessions were important, people must strive to discover their purpose in life and walk according to it.

Madam Vicky Amoah, broadcaster and singer who reviewed the book, said the author’s honesty stood out because she wrote from personal experience while addressing Ghanaian and broader African contexts.

She noted that the book was useful not only to single women but also to married people, church leaders and counsellors, guiding how society could better support single individuals.

Rev Dr Joyce Aryee, Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, delivering the keynote address, said the book highlighted the importance of trusting God to direct one’s life as a single woman.

She advised individuals not to allow circumstances, whether in relationships, careers or business, to define their worth or purpose in life.

The book emphasises that whether single by choice or circumstance, singleness should be embraced as an opportunity to live intentionally, thrive and make a meaningful impact on society.
