Boy, 14, drowns in culvert at Nyanyano

A 14-year-old pupil of Dadeben Basic School has drowned in a culvert at Teachers Quarters, a suburb of Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The victim, identified as Lawrence Dogbe, was a JHS 1 student.

According to eyewitnesses, Lawrence had gone swimming with two classmates after school had vacated on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, when the incident occurred.

His colleagues reportedly fled the scene after he drowned, but one of them later informed nearby residents, sparking a search and rescue effort.

Tai Hayford, a resident who helped retrieve the body, attributed the drowning to a large hole inside the culvert, suggesting the boy may have become trapped.

Hayford also revealed that a nearby bridge has remained collapsed for several years, turning the area into a death trap for residents.
